About Texel
Texel is the largest of the Dutch Wadden Islands, located north of Noord-Holland. Known for its beautiful beaches, unique natural landscapes, and picturesque villages like Den Burg and De Koog, Texel is a popular destination for nature lovers and beach enthusiasts.
Getting to Texel
By train
Texel doesn’t have its own train station, but you can easily reach Den Helder by train. From there, take bus 33 to the ferry terminal, where the ferry brings you to the island in about 20 minutes.
By car
Take the A7 and N9 highways to Den Helder, where you’ll board the ferry to Texel. Cars can travel on the ferry; purchasing your ticket in advance is convenient. No need to make reservations. Keep in mind that during school holidays, it can be quite busy and waiting times increase.
The ferry departs every hour, with extra services around holidays.
Tickets and the latest information are available on the TESO website. For parking on the island, you'll need a Texel e-vignette, available via texelevignet.nl.
Getting around in Texel
The best way to explore Texel is by bike; the island boasts excellent cycling paths and plenty of bike rental facilities. It’s also a great island to discover on foot, with clearly marked hiking trails through dunes and nature reserves. For longer distances, you can use the Texelhopper, a flexible public transport service that covers the entire island.
