About Terschelling
Terschelling is a beautiful Wadden Island located north of Friesland. It’s known for its wide sandy beaches, expansive natural areas like Boschplaat, and the charming village of West-Terschelling, home to the iconic Brandaris lighthouse.
Getting to Terschelling
Ferry
Regular ferries depart from Harlingen to Terschelling. The regular ferry takes about 2 hours, while the fast ferry reaches the island in approximately 50 minutes.
By train
Take the train to Harlingen Haven station, directly beside the ferry terminal.
By car
Drive via the Afsluitdijk and the A31 to Harlingen, where you’ll board the ferry to Terschelling. Space for cars on the ferry is limited, so advance reservations are strongly recommended. More information and tickets are available on the Rederij Doeksen website. If you prefer to park your car on the mainland, parking facilities like Tsjerk Hiddes are available near the ferry terminal.
Getting around in Terschelling
Terschelling is best explored by bike or on foot, with excellent cycling and walking paths throughout the island. Bikes can be rented near the ferry terminal and in most villages. Additionally, an Arriva bus service connects all main villages across the island.
