About Vlieland
Vlieland is a tranquil, nature-rich Wadden Island north of Friesland, known for its unspoiled beaches, dune landscapes, and the charming village of Oost-Vlieland. Since visitors cannot bring cars onto the island, Vlieland maintains a uniquely peaceful atmosphere.
Getting to Vlieland
Ferry
Ferries from Harlingen to Vlieland take approximately 2 hours, while the Fast Ferry takes about 50 minutes. Reservations are highly recommended.
By train
Take the train to Harlingen Haven station, located directly beside the ferry terminal.
By car
Drive to Harlingen via the Afsluitdijk and A31. Visitors must leave their cars behind, as cars are not allowed on Vlieland. You can park your car at facilities such as the Tsjerk Hiddes parking garage. For ferry tickets and schedules, visit the Rederij Doeksen website.
Getting around in Vlieland
Vlieland is almost entirely car-free and perfect to explore by bike or on foot. Bike rentals are widely available in the village or near the ferry terminal. For longer distances, a local bus line connects the village and western parts of the island.
